Welcome Frank!

Filed under: Senior Residence — knewman @ 10:17 am

Frank Porter joined us from Flordia in early April.  The following picture shows Frank and Destiny’s paint horse Dude.  Frank is the one on the right!  Also Phil Farris (who brought Frank over), Ray and Frank.

Evelyn Williamson spent the month of April with us.  We hope she comes back to stay!  Here she is with Jean Haggemeire who is coming to stay in June.  We’ve had beautiful spring weather for sitting on the porch!

Keith and Gail Ramsden and their boys visited for several days, and I turned a year older.

Lounell’s dad, John visits fairly often, and we have many large meals!

Fishing has been good again this Spring in Lake Conroe.  Here’s Bea with a fish she caught, and some of the spring flowers.

Spring has Sprung!

Filed under: Pecan Farming — knewman @ 3:42 pm

Finally… beautiful weather!  Some asked for updated pictures from around Pecan Grove.  This is a great time for pictures, so here goes!  First the front and back of the senior residence.  Drainage swales were added last fall and rye grass was planted to stabliize the soil.  This grass is growing great now, but will die when the summer heat comes.  Hopefully good grass will replace it.

The garage in front of the residence and the spring house behind the residence (which contains the irrigation system for the pecans) are now complete.

The following show the fountain in the lake and the deck beside the lake with the long bridge which is just in front of the beaver dam (shown in previous posts)

The pecan trees are later than most other trees in bearing leaves, so they still look dormant.  Here’s a picture of the pecan orchard and the horses in front of the old farm house that Terry and Kim Hoffman live in.

Redbud, tulip bush, wisteria…

Cormorant Engineering is busy.  Here’s the barn with Cormorant hydraulic power units around it, and a new workbench in the barn for working on pumps.

Ed and Leah Bolt are spending the month of March at Pecan Grove again.  Dave, Mary, Heather and Anna, who live on the Newry PA convention grounds, came for a visit as well. The grandparent Bolt’s and Newman’s were friends before the Truth came in Maryland in 1933.  Here are the Bolt’s and Jack and Leona.

There’s been some carving and some painting going on…

One evening Dale and Patty Maki showed us their pictures from Peru. Another evening we showed our pictures from Haiti (no picture here).  The Bolt’s and Newman’s were together at our place.

Lot’s of other visitors through the month… many more than we have pictures of.

February – Remembering Crystal

Filed under: Pecan Farming — knewman @ 5:59 pm

Crystal was with us at PG from March to November of 2009.  Her health started to deteriorate and in November she moved to the Opel’s in Pearland.  We’re glad for those family and friends who were able to care for her until she finished her course.  All of us, residents and staff, were able to attend her funeral last week.  Here are a few pictures of her from the 8 months she was with us.

Keith Ramsden was back for a visit, with his wife Gail.  Keith helped us at PG for a few months last year.

Sandra Wilson came to visit her sister Doris Crawford.

My cousin Audrey Fuller came to visit before going on special meeting rounds in Louisiana.  Here she’s with Joe, LiPing and Jonathan, and our workers Sharon and Jennifer.

Many of these folks were at our meeting at PG Sunday Feb 14th.  Here’s a picture of the meeting.

We’re looking forward to Ed and Leah Bolt returning for the month of March, and lots of visits around special meeting time.

January 2010

Filed under: Pecan Farming — knewman @ 1:16 pm

All are doing well at PG.  Here’s Bea with Leah Newman.

The beavers continue to build on their new dam, just a short distance from the senior center.

Stacey came by PG on her way to Columbia

The local friends have started monthly tea parties for the PG residents.  The following pictures are from the January tea party at Dale and Patty Maki’s.

It seems there’s always a reason to celebrate.  The following are from birthday meals for Joyce and Murray.

Year End – 2009

Filed under: Senior Residence — knewman @ 1:19 pm

It’s hard to believe 2009 is nearly finished.  It has been a wonderful year in many ways.  We now have six residents shown below in the following order, Doris Crawford, Frances McPherson, Evelyn Kuck,Teresa Goff, Betty Lawrence, Bea Jecmenek.

Our manager, Linda Ronhaar, had ankle surgery, and now rides around in a wheel chair.  Her two employees, Lounell and Cindy don’t seem to mind.

We’ve had a cold December, including snow!  Very unusual for this area.  But we’ve had plenty of warm friendship.  We’re glad for lots of visitors… I don’t have pictures of all of them.  Too much to eat!

Kathy’s sister, Pat Johnson, who labors in Utah, is here visiting… returning to SLC tomorrow.  She helped Kathy a few days at PG, but the only pictures I have of her are at home.  Here she is with our little boy Kenny, and then our family picture.

Happy New Year!

Ken
