October has flown by with conventions, one birthday and many visitors. Emma went to Georgetown Spanish and English. Esther went to GT English. Marie and Louise went to Effie. Marie was glad to be with two sisters there, Joy Appleman and Anette Bassett. Otherwise the residents listened to Texarkana, GT English and Mountain Peak.

We had a very special birthday this month! Abigail Hoffman turned 28! Here she is with her homemade Heath Bar cake from Tammy. Also in a selfie with Gwen Farmer who has had difficulty this month with an infection. Abigail has been a big help to Gwen. She has decided to go to college in Arkansas starting in January so will be leaving PG in December. We will miss her!

As usual, our months have been filled with many visitors. Most of which came from a convention or to see a friend. Linda Ronhaar and her daughter-in-law Julie (Reese) Ronhaar, who knows Louise well, visited. Tom and Donna Creech visited Naomi and Tom tuned our pianos.

Kelsey Ramsden and her Parents Keith and Gale came for a visit. Kelsey and Karin have been good friends since they were young, and Keith worked here at Pecan Grove for a while in 2009 when we were getting started. They brought with them Kelsey’s companion Lana Krack. Here they are in the entry way posing with Karin and Karla.

Gloria had some passing out spells this month. She spent a total of 5 days in the hospital while tests were run, and they found nothing! She hasn’t had another spell for a few weeks now, but she uses a walker most of the time just in case. Here she is in the hospital with Karla and Kathy. Tammy Toops is our part-time nurse. We have never had a nurse and now we wonder what we would do without Tammy! Here she is with her husband Kenny.

Ken, Melissa, Brooklyn and Owen Byler visited Gloria from Illinois. Also Peggy Jansen visited with her sister Rita and Dale Whittington.

Karin’s two children, Katelyn and Dylan made their choice at Georgetown. Andray Howell is working some here on the farm and has been teaching Karla’s boys, Emry and Evren, how to fish.

Here’s David Opel (who works at PG part-time) helping Emma walk at Georgetown. The residents are a big help with the chores at PG. Here’s Esther doing the wash.

Visitors here today (Halloween) are Anita Forsberg, Joyce Lawrence, Rachel Cuevas, and Stacey Seidlitz. Anita and Rachel will be co-workers in south OK.

The four residents in Park Manor nursing home are doing about the same. Here’s Fern Duncan with flowers the Laird’s sent, then Joyce Naber, Alice Oetken and Ronald Elliott waiting at the lunch table.

Wayne Overby and Ken practiced getting a tractor stuck and unstuck! Irving checking out the newspaper.

A quick summary of our residents:

  • Esther Duncan – doing great
  • Marie Mounce – Struggling with shortness of breath but made it to Effie!
  • Gwen Farmer – Struggling with medical issues
  • Emma Perez – doing great
  • Doreen Beyer – doing great

  • Roberta Stipp – still missing Elsie, but is improving
  • Irving Ross – stays about the same, mind clear, body frail
