Roger Cleveland was taken to the hospital with pneumonia.  He refused IV and nebulizer treatment, so was returned to the nursing home where they put him on oral antibiotics.  We can’t tell if he’s getting better or worse since then.  When we visit he’s usually asleep and since he’s completely deaf now, it’s hard to visit with him.  But the nurses tell us that he gets up, gets into his wheelchair, and they see him out in the halls sometimes.  So.. it’s hard to know how he is really doing.  Here’s Patty Maki trying to encourage him to take a nebulizer treatment… which he’ll take for less than a minute.  The second picture is of Clinton Goff and Kathy.  Clinton sleeps except for meals, has no idea about the present, but can discuss the past, and has a big appetite!

Teresa Goff fell in the nursing home and broke her hip.  She had surgery, and seems to be recovering.  She claims that she can walk when they give her PT… we haven’t seen that yet.  Raymod Reece seems happy in the nursing home.  We had thought we would try to move him from this VA nursing facility to the same one in Conroe where Roger and Teresa are, but he seems settled, and has quite a few visitors, so maybe it’s better to leave him there (an hour away from PG).  He only walks during PT, but makes it clear he doesn’t really expect to be able to walk again on his own.  Here’s a picture of him with Kathy, Alice, Jack and John.  The second picture is of a new employee at PG, Penny, with Salena.

Roger and Marian Fryer are staying near here for about a month, trying to escape the Wisconson winter.  Marian is a niece of Alice.  Their son Vance came from California for a visit.  The first picture is of Vance, Marian and Roger.  The second is of Virginia and Tom Bradshaw from Alberta, who came to visit their fellow Canadian, Fern.  Tom’s relatives met the gospel in Ontario at the same time as Fern’s mother.

Other visitors include Kory, Teresa, Ryan and Lily Overby,  Wray Paul and Sue Sluder (to be married in January), and Britt and Eva Booth.

The Spunagle / Willhoite clan from Redbud Canyon came through on their yearly vacation.  They loaded Marybelle on the Redbud bus for a photo.  Marybelle came from Redbud to PG one year ago.  Kathy’s sister Pat Johnson visited from Iowa, shown here with our workers, Emma and Rachel.

Dawn Overby’s brother Kelly and family visited.  The first picture shows Dawn and Wayne Overby, Jodi and Cory Kelley and daughter Payton, Kelly and Marlene Olson with Alice.  The second is 3 of Ty and Amy Nordic’s kids who are here for the holidays, Slade, Shanaye and Stetson.  The third is Magaret and Gerry Gunderson with Elton and Fern.

We’ve already had a cold winter… compared to our normal.  It snowed!  Unusual for here.  Unfortunately the stump of our eagle is rotten… not sure how long we can save it.

It’s supposed to get down to 16 F tomorrow (New Years)!  When we moved to Texas in 1985 there were bumper stickers that said, “Drive a gas guzzler, freeze a yankee!”  We moved here from Massachusetts! 🙂

Y’all keep warm!

July 2017

The biggest news in July was that Ruth Evans went back to Georgia to be in a facility owned by the Garys.  She had been at PG a little more than a year.  Kelvin, Sharon and Colleen picked her up on their way back from Happy.  The pictures below show the residents and Jack with Ruth the day before she left, then the residents and future residents 😊.

Here’s Ruth’s early morning send off, and her first evening’s supper in her apartment with Mark and Lauren Gary and family.

Collene and Sharon came to visit for several days before Happy.  Pat and Linda Bly visited from Missouri.

Kathy’s sister Kim Schneider and family visited from Minneapolis.  Here’s Kim with Marybelle, then the 4 cousins, Faith, Kathy, Kim and Lori.  Next is Kim’s 3 kids with the twins and the wolf.

Samuel’s brother Noe visited with family and friends from South Houston.  Edna and Pearl came to visit Fern.  Lyle stopped for a visit, shown here with Alice and John.

Conchita had a birthday in July, Marybelle cut paper dolls for the kids, and we had some fireworks on July 4th.

Kathy, Karin and the kids visited Teresa in the nursing home.  Kathy and I visited Clinton, who had just had a hair cut.

A graduation party was held at the Sr. Residence for Abigail Hoffman.  Abigail was home schooled.  Terry declared the Hoffman high school officially closed!  About 80 people came to the party.  The pictures below show Terry, Kim and Abigail, and group photos inside and out.  The meeting at PG is in the Hoffman home.

Visitors this month included Gary, Susan and Adrianna Peter, Lynden and Nadene Laird shown here with Fern and Neville Lee shown here with Marybelle and Elton.

Also Calvin and Nedda Penland shown with John, and Ivan, Christie and Ryder Gibbs from Australia who came to visit the Milles.

We have 4 wonderful staff who work at the residence.  One is Jennifer Maddoux who had a birthday this month.  The second is Conchita Valdez, shown here with Patty Maki and Jack Newman.  Conchita’s husband Samuel (not shown) works on the farm.

The third is Lety Valdez, shown with her husband Marcos (who also works for an engineering company located on the farm), and their daughter Hannah.  The last is Salena Newman shown at the nursing home with 5 of the 8 PG residents and with Naomi and Roger.  Salena manages the residence for us.  Finally, Dominique and Mimi Mille who help with the business management and purchasing the groceries.

A few months ago I showed pictures of some of the pecan grafts we had done.  Most of them died, but we have about 9 that took.  Here are pictures of 2 of them.  You can see the graft wood from Kiowa paper shell trees connected to the larger native tree stump.

Thanks for your interest in us here.

PG still has 8 residents.  Alice has been in Washington for about a month.  She’s at convention this week and returns next week.  Marybelle’s brother took her to visit relatives in Austin and Kansas, and brought her back last week.  The others, Raymond, Jean, Elton, Fern, Ruth and John are doing reasonably well.

Clinton has been in a nursing home in Conroe, but he had a fall and some other issues last week, so was hospitialized in Tomball.  His brother, Norris, wife, Nancy, are here visiting him.  Hopefully he’ll be able to return to the nursing home in Conroe.

Herbie Barnett has been doing some doctoring in Houston, so he and Patty visited along with Gilbert and Linda Randall.

David, Jim and Beth Grainger from Kansas, came by for a visit, shown here with Ruth, Marybelle and Fern.  The second picture is of Elton and Clarence one Sunday morning at Clarence’s.

Lety’s sister and family, Benjamin, Orfa and Brisa visited from Mexico.  Juan, Maria, Martha and Lopita from Pearland visited Raymond.

Kathy, the twins (Maren and Maven) (5) and Katelyn (3) had birthdays in May.

The pecans are looking good!  We’ve had reasonable rain, and are being very careful to spray for scab (fungus) and casebears (bugs).  So we have hope!

April 2017

Doris Crawford passed away in Birmingham Alabama.  Doris had been here at PG almost 8 years.  Her sister Sandra moved her to Birmingham at the end of January.  We miss Doris’s quiet, contented, soft happy spirit.

Fern Ducan came to be at PG April 18th.  Barbara Ballentine and Sharon Martyn accompanied Fern from Boston and stayed a week to help her settle in.  Fern has settled in nicely… we’re glad to have her with us.  Here are the 3 of them when they arrived.  Then Fern with Clinton, Barbara and Fern with Naomi, all 3 with Cindy and Dub Johnson.

Later they visited the nursing home again, here is Barbara with Patty Maki and Alice with Naomi.  Also we had 5 sisters for gospel meeting when Jennifer got back.

Alice and I share the same birthday, 28 years apart.  My sister Ronda and Mike Rosamond, and brother Brent and Ann, were here.  Also Salena’s father, Jim and Kirsten Thorburn were here, shown here with Kenny and Salena.

Kathy and I were gone part of April, so we didn’t see all the visitors.  Glen and Gladys Goecke are on the first 2 pictures (not together), with the Hinkleys and residents.

LaNell, Darla and Julie came for brief visits.

Family and friends of Samuel and Conchita visited:

Clinton’s brother Norris, and wife Nancy came to visit Clinton and Teresa, and visited PG.  Ronda had a good visit with Jean.

We’ve seen some ex-employees of PG recently.  On our trip we had lunch with Cindy Erickson in WA, pictured with Kathy.  Destiny Minor came to visit while Ronda and Mike were here.  Here she’s with Karin.

We don’t see as much of Bambi, but he does come by sometimes for bread.  Some of the pecan grafts we showed last month worked, you can see the live buds on the branches that were grafted in.  3 sisters went with us to see the grafts.
