Esther Potts arrived at Pecan Grove in late July, soon after we had left on a 3 week vacation, so I’m late getting this blog updated.  She’s the oldest resident we have, at 95, but does very well.  We’re glad to have her with us.  Here she is with Evelyn and Linda on the Polaris:

Frank turned 71:

We’re in the process of getting an assisted living license with the State of Texas.  Part of the many requirements is that anyone working with food preparation must wear a hairnet.  We’ve gotten a little carried away.  Here’s Frank and Brandon Chandler (my nephew who works on the farm):

The bunk house is now complete and being used by the staff.  With Esther we now have 9 residents, so there is only one apartment left.  Previously the staff have used empty apartments to spend the night. Now Linda uses the last apartment, Cindy and Lounell use the bunk house.  Construction on the log cabin for Kathy and me continues:

There were two birthdays recently, Bea (92) and Doris (87):

We’re still working on the bunk house for the staff.  Once Esther comes we’ll only have one room left in the residence.  Hopefully the bunk house will be finished in the next few weeks.  We’ve started building a small log cabin on the other side of the farm for Kathy and I to stay in sometimes.  I’m sure it will be used for visitors as well.

This was supposed to be a father/son project for Kenny and I while Kenny is off school this summer.  Dad (Jack) is helping us a lot, and Brandon helps some of the time, so the cabin is going quickly.  Hurricane Alex is slowing us down this week by sending a lot of rain this way.

Finally… beautiful weather!  Some asked for updated pictures from around Pecan Grove.  This is a great time for pictures, so here goes!  First the front and back of the senior residence.  Drainage swales were added last fall and rye grass was planted to stabliize the soil.  This grass is growing great now, but will die when the summer heat comes.  Hopefully good grass will replace it.

The garage in front of the residence and the spring house behind the residence (which contains the irrigation system for the pecans) are now complete.

The pecan trees are later than most other trees in bearing leaves, so they still look dormant.  Here’s a picture of the pecan orchard and the horses in front of the old farm house that Terry and Kim Hoffman live in.

Cormorant Engineering is busy.  Here’s the barn with Cormorant hydraulic power units around it, and a new workbench in the barn for working on pumps.

Ed and Leah Bolt are spending the month of March at Pecan Grove again.  Dave, Mary, Heather and Anna, who live on the Newry PA convention grounds, came for a visit as well. The grandparent Bolt’s and Newman’s were friends before the Truth came in Maryland in 1933.  Here are the Bolt’s and Jack and Leona.

There’s been some carving and some painting going on…

One evening Dale and Patty Maki showed us their pictures from Peru. Another evening we showed our pictures from Haiti (no picture here).  The Bolt’s and Newman’s were together at our place.

Lot’s of other visitors through the month… many more than we have pictures of.
