We had the coldest weather I’ve seen in this area in February, but thankfully it is gone. We’re back to using air conditioning most days and some spring flowers are out.

Everyone at PG is well. We’ve had our share of colds and bugs, but all have recovered and are appreciating the warmer weather.

Ed and Leah Bolt leave tomorrow… back to the cold north. We’ve sure enjoyed having them here for the month of February. This is the 3rd year they’ve visited for a month, and we hope they’re able to come again next year! Also, Marth Houston from Ohio is visiting this weekend. Esther stayed with Martha before coming to PG. Here she is with Esther, Evelyn and Frances.

We appreciated Lyle coming for a visit earlier in the month. Here he is with Sharon and Sara, and then at a meal with about 30 of us.

We have about 600 lb of cleaned (no shell) pecans – if anyone is interested!

What’s Wrong with this Picture?

Linda had foot surgery to remove the screws that were put in a year ago, so our oldest resident, Esther, is pushing our manager, Linda.

Unfortunately, Linda has decided she needs to retire for health reasons. We’re really going to miss her! My sister, Ronda Rosamond, who lives here on the farm, is taking over as the manager.

These are the 9 residents we have as this year comes to an end. In order left to right in the back row they are Jean Hagemeier, Betty Lawrence, Frank Porter, and Bea Jecmenek. In front – Doris Crawford, Evelyn Kuck, Esther Potts, Teresa Goff and Frances McPherson.

A couple of birthdays recently, Lounell and Tamara.

Sometimes we work, cleaning pecans, sometimes we have fun – Frank being Frank!

We can now use our cabin, which is on the west side of the farm, hidden in the woods by a small pond.

Our daughter and husband, Karla and Brendan Furrow, and Kathy and I had our anniversary the same day in December. Then we went to Minneapolis to visit Kathy’s family. We’re glad for the warm weather in Texas!

November

It’s hard to believe that November is over already! At the beginning of November we realized we had a significant problem with our beaver(s) again. The fountain in the lake stopped working. When we retrieved it we found that the beavers had cut several of the electric cables and had chewed holes in the floats! We used a motion sensitive camera to get a picture of what we believe to be the major culprit. Here he is, along with a hole in a float that he made.

We’ve tried hunting him, trapping him, shooting into his house…. so far he’s outwitted us. We try to save face by saying we must have gotten that one, and another one has moved in! But we don’t have any proof. At the end of the month he’d repaired the damage we’d done to his house. We encased the fountain in a wire mesh and now have it up and running again.

Of course deer season opened in November. Mike got several…. here he is with an 8 point buck. Fishing was still good at Thanksgiving time – Doris caught a bunch, held here by Hailee.

We had 25 for Thanksgiving at the Senior Residence. Too much food… wonderful visits.

Pecan Grove is Now an Assisted Living Facility

We’ve had a busy month with conventions and visits. In the middle of it all the State of Texas decided to pull a suprise inspection. We passed, and now Pecan Grove has an Assisted Living license.

Carl and Phil came by after Effie to make sure Frank was behaving ok. Phil told about his trip to Haiti and showed pictures.

Teresa Goff turned 90 yesterday! We told her she didn’t look a day over 89. She didn’t give a speech, but she did make the piano talk for awhile. Kathy’s sister, Pat Johnson and her co-worker Elissa Erickson were here between Georgetown and Mountain Peak.

Gerald and Gay Quinn brought Jeanette Ford by to spend some time with Esther. Jeanette told us many stories about being with Esther in PA.

Fall is Here!

The weather sure is beautiful! 60’s at night, 80’s during the day. Beats the summer heat!

Esther had her 95th birthday earlier this month.

Convention time is here. Linda left today for Fosters Alabama with Esther, Teresa and Doris. They sure were excited about going! Most of the rest of the residents will go to Georgetown in a few weeks. Some intend to get more than one convention.

Work continues on the cabin.

Kathy and I took a brief trip to West Texas, and enjoyed a visit with Jack and Mae Nelson, shown here in their Ford Model A. Jack helped a lot with the building of Pecan Grove. Then we drove down to Big Bend national park. Kathy is under the balanced rock in the picture below.
